MLK Day of Service at Beth Israel
This Martin Luther King Day, January 21, the Social Action Committee will host two activities. You are invited to knit and crochet hats for those in need from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. We will also provide scissors and felt for those who would like to make felt puppets. And, you can join us at the same time to write postcards to your local, state and federal politicians about any timely issues that are on your mind and need attention. The Social Action Committee will provide the postcards, sample scripts, names and addresses of politicians, pens and postage. All ages are welcome, and snacks and drinks will be provided.
For the knitters, easy patterns and basic instruction will be available. Hundreds of hats have been made since this project started almost 9 years ago. Warm hats have been donated to the homeless who run with Back on My Feet (BOMF), Cradles to Crayons, Chester Eastside, City Team, SNAP (Second Time Around Parents) and to women undergoing chemotherapy.
Donations of knitting needles (sizes 8 or 9), crochet hooks (sizes 3 or 4) and skeins of worsted-weight yarn are always welcome. Knitting hoops are also used, for those who shy away from knitting needles and crochet hooks. For more information please contact Elaine Wasekanes at 610-237-8269 (home); on the day of the event call 610-608-7426, or send a message to email@example.com or Judy Kinman (firstname.lastname@example.org). If you know of people outside of Beth Israel who would like to join us, they may register at MLKDayofService.org.
