Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration
Join your Beth Israel community and others for MLK Day, Monday afternoon, January 15th, 1 to 3:30.
CHOOSE, or participate in ALL activities:
DROP BY to DONATE feminine products, soap, and toilet paper to be delivered to the St. Katherine Drexel Parish food pantry in Chester, where fellow BI member Jill Whitcraft is a volunteer. Or you can drop your donations at BI in the foyer between now and January 15.
STAY TO JOIN your fellow congregants at BI to write postcards (blanks will be provided) to our elected officials on urgent topics of the day, with addresses and sample scripts also provided.
STAY TO KNIT OR CROCHET or use a simple knitting loom to make warm hats and scarves to donate to those in need. Simple patterns and instruction will be available. Skeins of worsted weight yarn, knitting needles size 7, 8, or 9, crochet hooks size 3 or 4, and knitting hoops -- bring your own or borrow ours.

LISTEN as our BIMAS plays the prelude music at Media Fellowship House as the Media Area Unit NAACP, and Media area houses of worship hold the 29th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Celebration at the First Church Media at State and Lemon Streets on January 14, 2018. The program, which starts at 3:45 p.m. with the musical prelude (4:00 for the procession) honors the life and work of Dr. King and recognizes the struggles of all those who are have been oppressed.
PAINT WALLS with FUSE at The Learning Playpen day care center, located at 222 West 8th Street in Chester, PA. The work entails preparing the second floor as classrooms where older children can go after school to get help with homework, and have a safe place to stay while their parents work. Work will be done in shifts from 9 a.m.-11 a.m., 11 a.m.-1 p.m., and 1 p.m.-3 p.m. To volunteer, contact Cory Long (Clong814@gmail.com) or Bob McCauley (firstname.lastname@example.org).
AND IN THE EVENING: 6:00 – 8:30 pm – FUSE MLK Program at Market Street Ballroom. Panel presentation followed by community discussion. Bring a dessert to share.
