It is my pleasure to welcome you to our Congregation Beth Israel of Media website. We are a community that is passionate about prayer, social action, learning, teaching, socializing, and of course, noshing. We draw on each other for inspiration and support as we share the highs and lows of life together.
The words that come to mind when I’m asked to describe Beth Israel are passion, enthusiasm, openness, and spirituality. I encourage you to participate in synagogue life, whether you’re part of an all-Jewish household or not, whether you have children or not, whether you’re here for Shabbat services, or for the adult education, Hebrew school, social action, or social events that occur throughout the year.
This website contains information about our history, mission, Hebrew School, events, leadership, and ways to support Beth Israel, as well as a members-only section with a directory and other helpful information. If you're a member, learn how to get involved. If you're not a member, learn what makes us the warm and special place we are, and join us for Shabbat or holiday services, a class, or a relaxing evening of schmoozing and eating.
At Beth Israel, members get back much more than they give. We have many committees – learn about them and find out which ones could use your skills and passion. Volunteer members help to lead services, keep our building running, plant gorgeous plants outside, bring food to the sick or the needy, run great social events, and so much more. Getting involved at Beth Israel pays dividends and helps recharge your spirit. E-mail or call a committee chair to get involved, and if you’re asked to help out, please find a way to say, “Yes!”
May you go from strength to strength this year. May your life be enriched through all that our Beth Israel community has to offer, and it is my hope that we will be enriched in return.
In friendship,
Josh Waterston,
President
