Hebrew School Talent Show - new date Sunday, May 19, 2013

The Hebrew School is starting to prepare for our biannual Hebrew School Talent Show.  All are welcome! Any students (or adults) who would like to participate in the talent should contact Shawn Dresner.

Proceeds from the talent show will go towards creation of a GaGa court at BI, which the school's student aides have designated as their legacy gift. (Many thanks to the student aids, Jared Brown, Sydney Bruck, Shawn Dresner and Thomas Fogel, for their thoughtfulness.)

GaGa, (also known as Israeli dodgeball) is a great team building sport and a lot of fun for kids of all ages and athletic abilities.

If anyone would like to contribute to the GaGa project (either funds or help building the GaGa pit), please contact Helene Cohen.  Click here for more information

Vav-Zayin Trip to the Holocaust Museum on December 16, 2012

The Holocaust museum was touching, and gave me a whole new look on who the Nazis were, and what they did. The first exhibit we went through was all about a Jewish boy, Daniel, who lived during the Nazi time period, and wrote a diary about his tragic experience.  We traveled through his home, his neighborhood, and the ghetto he was forced to live in. There were also a few videos with Daniel himself  narrating. It gave me a whole new insight on the life of a Jewish citizen in Germany at the time. I knew it was bad, but not that horrible. Then we walked around 4 floors where you could read and watch about the Holocaust. You could walk through one of the trains that Jewish prisoners were kept in to be transported, and it was dark, uncomfortable, and looked like it was about to fall apart. Talk about eerie. The whole experience made you wonder, what if it was you? What if  you were taken away from the comfort and safety of your home and friends, all because of something as insignificant as your religion, or your race and sexuality. So overall, the Holocaust museum was very educational, touching, and for me at least, shocking.
